Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where should I meet for trips?

A: Most trips meet outside University House. This is the opposite side of University House to Alexandra Square, near the Students' Union.

Q: Where is the gear shed?

A: Underneath SPAR, around the corner from Sultans. There are a set of doors marked Slaidburn House. Please let one of the exec know if you need to go to the gear shed so we can let you in.

Q: Can anyone join the climbing team?

A: We hold team trials in freshers' week which is open to everyone, so feel free to come and try out! The team captains then select the team! Team training is twice a week at the Sports Centre, you must be a club member and have at least Bronze Sport Plus membership.

Q: Are the team training sessions open to everyone?

A: No, these sessions are only available for the team members

Q: Do you need to be a club member to go on trips?

A: Yes, unfortunately this is  a requirement from the Students' Union. You can become a member Here

Q: Does being a club member mean you can climb for free at the uni wall?

A: No, the club is not affiliated with the university wall. Concession is £7 (unless you have  a gold gym membership).  Club members do get cheaper entry on Wednesday afternoons at £3.50.

Q: What kit do I need to bring?

A: It's important to be well prepared for every trip, so make sure to check the weather forecast the day before and the morning of the trip. Below is a general list but we mainly ask you to bring some common sense and prep well!

General Trip (Winter)

  • Waterproof coat

  • Warm clothing

  • Hiking/waterproof boots

  • Head torch and spare batteries (Important)

  • Waterproof/quick-drying trousers

  • Food and water

  • Warm hat and gloves

  • Decent waterproof rucksack and dry bag

  • Spare clothing (Socks most importantly)

General Trip (Summer)

  • Waterproof coat

  • Warm clothing

  • Hiking/waterproof boots

  • Food and water (Water is vital!! We could have long walk-ins at high altitude)

  • Sunglasses

  • Sun cream
